He began his career in corporate banking at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Bank in New York City. Later, he specialized in advising individuals and families on prudent financial planning and planning for a secure retirement. In 1992, at the urging of most of his clients he established his own advisory office to offer more comprehensive retirement planning.

Mr. Eller often speaks to the public and was interviewed on radio and television. His popular retirement planning workshops for pre-retirees and retirees alike have been held in many locations. Rich was the host for a well-known radio financial program which aired in New York and Connecticut. One of primary reasons Rich works as an educator and independent advisor is to have the freedom and ability to focus solely on client relationships without any potential conflicts of interest.
